Partial Renovation in Park Ridge, Illinois of a Step-Down Unit near a Med-Surgery area on the 3rd floor.

Partial Renovation

I was part of a small team with a Project Manager and Project Architect to collaborate with MEP engineers and technology consultants. We worked through existing conditions and research on city codes to fit the appropriate number of rooms to redesign and include for efficient use of the space. The goal of this project was to modernize and make the patient rooms more efficient for nurses and storage for healthcare professionals. This project continued to a larger in scope renovation throughout the first floor of the building.

Roles in Design Process

I helped the project team with the following deliverables from early design iterations like Schematic Design to Construction Documents and submitting Permit to the city:

• Drawings including Floor Plans, RCPs, elevations, and 3D Views

• Assisted the Project Architect on Life Safety Plans

• Collaborated with Equipment team for room configurations

• Worked with Interior team on finishes and interior details

Implementation

Because this project was at a small scale, we zoomed in on a lot of details including equipment, material finishes, how patients will feel, how clinicians can enter the room, accessibility for when the patient needs to go to the bathroom, and how nurses can safely monitor the patient, as well as comfortably move around. These interior renders were used to communicate the feel and application of these patient rooms with stakeholders and the design team. This way, stakeholders and equipment team can discuss what works, what can be improved on, and how this matches up to the clinician teams' and clients' goals. Then we implemented agreed upon design decisions and developed our drawings accordingly, while following accessible guidelines and city codes.
